SIRS/SEPSIS CRITERIA

SIRS = two of the following:

1. Temperature >38 or <36C

2. Heart rate >90 bpm

3. Respiratory rate >20 bpm or PaCO2<32 mmHg

4. WBC >12,000 cells/mm3, <4,000, or >10% bands

Sepsis = SIRS + infection

Severe sepsis = Sepsis + associated organ dysfunction or hypoperfusion (e.g. lactic acidosis, oliguria, altered MS)

Septic shock = Sepsis + hypotension despite adequate fluid resuscitation
